the alcove

THE CONCEPT

A contemporary Florentine alcova, rooted in art, craft,
and the quiet elegance of the Tuscan countryside.

Conceived for Artemest's L'Appartamento during Milan Design Week 2026, The Alcove draws from the Renaissance interior, its curtained sleeping chambers, its culture of careful making, and the poetic stillness of Florence's historic villas. The room is designed to feel timeless and layered, as though gathered slowly over generations rather than composed at once.

At the centre of the space, a four-poster iron bed wrapped in soft drapery recalls the curtained alcova of the Renaissance, creating a quiet architectural presence within the room. Fine woodwork, leather, ironwork, and decorative artistry drawn from historic Florentine ateliers and contemporary makers surround it. The result is intimate and unhurried. A sanctuary that holds its breath.

"Designed as both sanctuary and retreat, the room reflects Florence's enduring culture of making."
